6 Simple Link Building Ideas

For those just starting off in website building field, one overlooked aspect can be the importance of link building. Getting inbound links is one of the most important, and time consuming, tasks involved in SEO. There are a number of ways to start generating inbound links to your site and below I’ll discuss a few:

1. Directory Submission – You might think “What good is a directory? Nobody will find my site through that.” And that may be true in many cases, but you still at the very least get the benefit of an inbound link. From day 1 of your site you should start submitting to directories. A good list of directories can be found here.

2. Reciprocal Linking – Find websites that are of similar topics and keywords and contact the webmasters asking for a link exchange. The key here is to write personalized emails that don’t sound like spam mail. Compliment their site, tell them about your site and tell them why you both would benefit from the link exchange. Below I’ve listed 3 tools that can help you find possible sites for link exchanges:

Find Link Partners
Link Partner Finder
Themes Reciprocal Link Finder

3. Social Networking – I’m sure that you are aware that social networking sites are huge nowadays, but they are just as useful for linking and traffic purposes as they are for meeting new people. By creating a MySpace profile for your website and adding friends you can send out bulletins advertising your website as well as post your link on your profile and others.

4. Social Bookmarking – Not only are social networking sites useful for link building, but so are the social bookmarking websites. Sites such as Digg, StumbleUpon, del.icio.us, and more are perfect places to generate more inbound links. Below are a few places that you should look into submitting to:

5. Writing Articles – For whatever reason this option has never appealed to me. I somehow find something very wrong about writing articles that are going to be copied 50 times over on websites all over. However it is a decent link building strategy as the people who use your article are suppose to leave your website URL on the article.

Write an article about the topic that your website covers and submit it to various article directories. There are a ton of article directories and I’ve listed a few below.

http://www.articlebar.com/
http://www.articlecity.com/
http://www.articledashboard.com
http://www.articledepot.co.uk
http://www.articlesphere.com/

6. Buy Links – Yeah I said it, you can buy links….take that Google! If you haven’t read it yet, there are rumors that Google will start penalizing for people who explicitly buy and sell links. Right now I don’t see it happening, so join in on the fun and start buying some links. Paid links on high PageRank websites can be quite beneficial as long as the topic is similar, but I would make this a last resort.

Good Luck!

I’m with you, the thought of article submissions doesn’t really excite me all that much, but at the same time I’ve never really given it a decent shot.
