I am actually just starting a new e-commerce business right now in a partnership. My partner happens to be my best friend. I promised myself that I would never let business ruin our friendship if anything were to go wrong. I know forsure we both have the same goals and we both motivate eachother to work harder and better. Lets see how this turns out.

I think it gets tricky when you throw friends into the mix, but it can be done. Even so, I’ve developed a strong friendship with my business partner and we work together perfectly.

Great post and great insight! I suppose it goes unsaid, but another important element to look for in a partner is a shared passion. A strong passion will undoubtedly keep you running through the rough times and down turns. Knowing your partner shares that same passion is reassuring and contributes to the trust that you talked about.

Regarding not working with friends - I can certainly attest to the difficult/awkward/sticky situations that can arise out of working with a close friend. However, my business partners are comprised of some of my best friends, and I think at times the benefit of having that established friendship can outweigh the few awkward scenarios. Not saying it’s for everybody, but it can work given the right mentality/trust/respect.

Yes indeed, as you can see a good business partner can became a good motivator. I’ve also have my one special business partner that helped me on my way to online business.

Great post and advice. Its funny I just becamse partners with a friend on a new blog. I think the most important thing is to establish early on is that you have to be upfront on certain things especially money and duties, and know that it is okay to get on each other fro not performing on a certain level. Being upfront is definitiely a hard thing to swallow especailly when relationships are involved. People need to realize how to separate work and freind/family relationships, a very hard task to do. At the end of the day you must realize work is work and family is family, do not take it to heart.
