August Goals
We’re a week or so into August and I think it’s time to write down my goals for the month. I wrote down my goals in June and found that it was helpful to have them written down and to actually be able to cross things off when I was done. So here we go:
1. Increase RSS Readership to 60
That’s right I want to get to 60 by the end of the month. Right now I am an 47 subscribers, so I think that reaching 60 shouldn’t be too hard as long as I keep posting and promoting. I’m hoping to be well over 100 by the year’s end.
2. Read “The 4 Hour Work Week”
I’ve seen a lot of bloggers reading this book and it’s sparked some interest in me as well. For those not familiar with the book, it’s goes over how to work shorter hours, be more successful and attain the things you want in life. I’m usually pretty skeptical about any of these self-help type books, but with all the reviews floating around it sounds like it could be worth the read.
3. Move JustPressPlay to a Dedicated Server
It’s come to the point where my main website JustPressPlay is too much for our VPS to handle. Our memory load has been peaking close to 100% and with a recent popular digg article we thought it was a good time to transition to a dedicated server. I’m just starting work on the transfer and should have this done by next week.
4. Increase Traffic to the Blog
By the end of August, I would like to see at least 1500 unique visitors (if not 2000) in my stats for this blog. My high point since the creation of this blog has been 1240 and that was in June of this year. I’m confident though that at the very least I can reach 1500 this month.
5. Meet New Bloggers
I feel as though I haven’t put a lot of time forming any sort of relationships with my fellow bloggers and would like to start meeting more of them, exchanging emails and possibly linking between blogs. I’ve met a few great ones in Matt Huggins and Christine over at Create Business Growth, but I can definitely put more effort into it. If you are interested, contact me.

Hey Erik. It’s always great to post new goals every month and to see whether you’ve managed to tick them off or not.
The first 100 RSS subscribers are always the hardest. As you know, focus on content creation, as that will get you there quickest.

Good luck on reaching these goals Erik. I’ll be doing something very similar as soon as I launch my site redesign.
I strongly recommend reading the 4 hour work week. If you don’t have time to read, like me, then download the audio book from iTunes and listen to it in your car. It’s an amazing book that I highly recommend to anyone looking to not work for “the man”.
I’m interested in hearing your thoughts!

It’s inspiring to watch another young blog grow as it definitely gives motivation to others to grow their own. Keep the goal-setting up and keep us posted on your progress. Where we can help, I’m sure we’d be happy to.
I’m all for connecting to share more entrepreneurial rants and banter. As I know you do development work (complimenting my creative work), I’d be particularly interested in chatting/trading links sometime.
