How to Earn More from Your Site

Entrepreneur Apr 26th, 2007 1 Comment

You might think you have the greatest site out there or you may think that your site is doing as well as it can, but the truth is there is always room for improvement. By realizing that you can always do things to make your site better will ultimately help you earn more money.

Experiment – As I said above, realize that you can always make your site better and that your site may have more money making potential left in it. By playing with a number of variables you may find that you can make an extra few bucks per day. Remember to track your data, experimenting isn’t any good without stats to analyze. Here are a few things to consider tweaking:

  • Advertising Programs – Adsense, YPN, Text-Link-Ads, AdBrite, CPA Ads, CPM Ads. Which one is right for your site? Try switching things up and inserting a different ad network for a few days. It may perform better than your current service.
  • Ad Placement/Themes – Consider moving your ads around. Perhaps your ad block performs better embed in the middle of the content versus right at the beginning. Also maybe a different link color or border color will create a better CTR, consider experimenting.

Traffic – One of the obvious ways to increase your site’s income is to bring in more traffic. More traffic = more clicks (hopefully). There are plenty of ways to bring in more traffic and here are a few ideas:

  • StumbleUpon – Install the StumbleUpon toolbar and stumble your own sites. Then find a few SumbleUpon Exchanges and get others to stumble your site. You might be surprised at the traffic generated.
  • Technorati – If your site is a blog consider submitting it to Technorati, if you haven’t already done so. As long as your site is generating quality content you will find that Technorati will toss you a few new visitors.
  • Digg – Digg has the ability to toss you a lot of traffic, if you write the right articles, but also be weary. Digg users don’t necessarily convert well in to ad clicks.

Analyze & Repeat – After analyzing your experimental data you may have found the best ad network for your site, but don’t be afraid to continue experimenting from time to time when new ad networks come along. Secondly, never stop trying to increase website traffic. I said it above and I’ll say it again…More Traffic = More Money. The places I listed above are just starter ideas for increasing traffic. There are plenty of other ways to increase traffic.

Good Luck!
