Monetizing Through Text Links
When it comes to making money though your websites, advertising programs such as Adsense may not be enough in terms of generating revenue. There are a plethora of other additional options for making your site a moneymaker. Text links are one such option is easy and guaranteed to make you an extra bit of cash every month.
Text links are exactly what the name implies. They are links placed generally near the footer or underneath the navigation and are keyword rich links to other sites. People want you to link to their sites and they will pay for you to do so. Why would someone pay for you to link to them? Well it’s simple…not only does it drive traffic to their site, but it also helps their Google PageRank which in turn can be an effective in driving traffic and increase a webmaster’s link popularity.
Now, if you’ve read this far, you are probably interested in trying to sell some links. Be forewarned, Google has warned all webmasters about such practices and frowns upon it. However if the links you are placing on your site are relevant in someway and not completely overdone, you shouldn’t have any issues with selling a few links.
When deciding on text link placement, I generally place them in the footer and allow no more than 5 links. You don’t want to overload the footer of your site with too many links, but you do want to make a bit of cash…choose carefully as to how many you want to allow to make it look good and be effective.
The next step to take is to decide on a price. How much a link is worth will depend on a number of factors, make sure to take all of them into account. Some of the more important ones are:
- PageRank
- Unique Visitors
- Alexa Ranking
- Number of Backlinks
- Sitewide vs Single Page
- Number of Links You Are Selling
- Site Category
If you can’t come up with a price for yourself there are a number of tools that can help you on your way:
Text-Link-Ads Link Calculator
Celebrity Contest Link Calculator
Finally when you are ready to sell, where should you do it? You have a couple of options here as well. If you choose to sell them yourself, I would recommend first you have a paypal account to accept payments and then head over to the DigitalPoint Forums’ Link Selling Forum and make a post. With any luck you should have a few buyers in a day or so. If you don’t feel like doing a lot of work, check out Text-Link-Ads. Just tell them some information about your site and insert their ad code into your site and they sell the links for you. The unfortunate side effect is that they take 50% of the money earned from the link sales.
I hope you find this article useful in helping you monetize your site further. Good luck with your sales.

A lot of great points. I didn’t even think of selling text links on digital point. It’s one of those things you just forget in the everyday life of a blogger/entrepreneur :0)
Thanks for the heads up!
