September & October – Months in Review

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted and because of that some of my stats have suffered. Tomorrow I want to take an in-depth look at how my blog has held up in my absence and how I can make it back to my pre-hiatus statistics. Today I would like to do a general overview of how things have been going and a little bit of what’s in store for this month.

RSS Readership
Before my long absence, I set a goal in August to get my readership up to 60 readers. Well even with my hiatus I’ve been able to reach that goal. Currently my readership is sitting at 66 readers which is a good sign that people found that content that I had already produced interesting and continued to subscribe even though my content wasn’t up to date. I’m certainly not saying that consistent posting isn’t important, but it’s good to see my numbers didn’t drop significantly…so thanks to all of my readers for sticking with me.

Traffic
My traffic for September and October was definitely affected by my lack of posting with the combination of both months being less than August’s totals. I received a little over 1600 unique visitors for October and a little over 2300 for September, but both my pageviews and hits were extremely low. Besides my actual traffic numbers my ranking in the SERPs for the keyword ‘Internet Entrepreneur’ has dropped and I’m currently sitting on the tail end of page 2. This is definitely something I’m going to be working on. I want to get back to page 1 and I want even more so to get to the top 5 results for the term. I’ll talk more about this slide in the SERPs in the coming days.

Earnings
Without posting, this blog itself hasn’t earned a lot from my minimalist adsense placements…a mere $8.45. Yet when factoring in some freelance programming work and the advertising earnings from JustPressPlay I’ve ended up making $643.45 in September and $285.34 in October. Although none of this was passive income, I’m still happy with these numbers and hope to make a little over $300 this coming month.

Projects
I honestly haven’t had the time to work on any of my projects. I know a few people have inquired about my WriteBoost project, but I’ve been unable to work on it and now I am thinking of dropping that project all together (If anyone wants to buy the domain/logo, please contact me). Besides that, I’ve been working on JustPressPlay by securing more advertising and writer and I’ve been slowly developing some new projects by at least getting them out on paper. I have quite a few exciting projects; it’s just a matter of development now. Stay tuned!

Personal
As I said yesterday, the reason for my absence from blogging was largely due to changes in my personal life. I recently moved to a new apartment which is around 40 minutes outside of Boston, MA. It’s been a lot of painting and unpacking…with even more boxes awaiting me! I’ll get to them eventually. Besides the move, I also got a new job working for a software development company. I handle a lot of their web content and it’s been great so far. Lastly, but more importantly, I recently reached the 1 year mark with my girlfriend and couldn’t be happier.

As you can all see (hopefully), I’ve been pretty busy in my personal life, but I honestly missed my blog and interacting with the blogging community. I like getting up in the morning and posting here and then reading what others have to say and I hope everyone enjoys reading what I have to say.
